About Us

Working under the auspices of The Ippen Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, the Kanaloa Project is dedicated to research and conservation of Lāna‘i's marine environment.

SHARKS

Scientific understanding of sharks around Lāna‘i is limited. Therefore, the Kanaloa Project is combining local knowledge and community participation with scientific research to increase our awareness of shark species, populations, and movement and migration patterns around Lāna‘i, This information will help us better understand the roles sharks play in our local environment and permit us to better advocate for the conservation and preservation of these animals.
